I Haven't Got a Hold of The Bottle
(The Bottle's Got A Hold Of Me)

Notes

I wrote this song ages and ages ago and have demo-ed it about 3 times and it always turned out very ordinary. I knew it had a good song in there somewhere, but it couldn't get out. A band came into my studio and played this kind of Southern Country Boogie kind of thing and I went YES, that's what I need to do with that bloody song and it immediately came to life.

We considered leaving this and Little Miss Dynamite off this CD cause we felt the other 11 tracks were fine for the CD and that these 2 songs didn't quite fit in or at least "padded" the CD a little... still don't know if we did the right thing, but they're there now so there you go...

Astute fans will notice that I pinched the line "I don’t drink any more, but I confess I don't drink any less" from the song "Drinkin" off the 2nd CD I tried for ages to finish the 2nd verse and just had to use that line. I just plagiarised myself.

A Band called The Wolverines has covered this song... our first cover version!

Lyrics

I haven’t got a hold of the bottle
The bottle’s got a hold of me
I  can’t seem to get into the spirit
The spirit  keeps getting into me.
I wake up to the touch of Margarita
And go to bed with Jack from Tennessee
I haven’t got a hold of the bottle
The bottle’s got a hold of me

I won’t tell you no lies, no half beaten alibis
About the troubles of a man, with a ten year drinkin’ plan
Invest your money on the bar, but it won’t get you very far
Every dollar that I saved, bloody Mary just took away.

I tell you what I hate, it’s overrated being straight
When my back’s against the wall, I’ll drink anything at all

I tried being sober, 1 drink then it’s over,
Well I  don’t drink any more, but I confess
I don't drink any less
