Keep Those Home Fires Burnin'

This is one of the songs I wrote, when after writing the 1st CD. I figured I'd better start exploring more the open D tuning I use, and it really paid off, this song really hangs together well, a bit bluesy, a bit rocky, a bit Bo-Diddley. Clem O'Sheehan came to record a song at my studio and he had the first part of the riff, I said can I borrow that and make a song out of it, so I took it from there, from acorns, trees grow!

The title comes from Chuck Berry from his "Hail Hail Rock 'n Roll" movie a decade ago, he said, basically, "do what you want when you're away, you just gotta 'keep those homefires burning' when you get home"... which sounds like a very convenient arrangement for Chuck!

We play this song every gig, Derek and I often do a drum duet in the middle, the audience LOVE it (and so do we).

You’ve gotta keep those home fires burnin’
Keep them burnin’ for me
Keep those home fires burnin’
Keep them warm just for me.

I work hard every day, back up every night
It’s hard just to find us some time
Try as we may, fight as we might
Things seem to work out just fine

Nite after nite, you’re all alone
There seems to be no other way
Then comes a time when we’re at home
It's there that I want to stay

I’m north of your love, south of your heart
It’s hard just to find middle ground
The further I go, the longer I stay

But I'll soon be you're city bound
