How Can I Be Thirsty When I Had So Much To Drink Last Night

Notes

My wife Jan saw this on the internet one day, so I wrote it down and ended up writing it with Ian Dittman from The Bellhops. It was more his style, kind of a "Midnight Hour" feel, with horns, but The Bellhops never recorded it and it was a good song sitting and doing nothing. So one day as I was tuning my guitar down to open C, I played a couple of chords, just to settle the guitar into it's tuning, and it ended up sounding like the intro to "Wake Up Little Suzie". So the next week I was looking at the song and I played that lick again, much slower and there it was, a new groove for "Thirsty". I wish I hadn't have mixed it so heavy though, I should have been a bit lighter with the guitars I reckon, more mandolin, anyway, such is life.

Lyrics

I've waited half my life for the end of the week to appear
Thank God its Friday night time to go out and drink me some beer
One turns to two, two turns to three
Its time to switch to bourbon
Cause its gettin late you see
Now it's Saturday mornin' and I don't feel right
How can I be thirsty, I had so much to drink last nite

Feelin pretty up so I'm gonna put a few more down
Don't need no directions gonna get myself lost and found
Grab the keys shut the door I won't be back today
I work real hard, so now its time to play
Now it's Saturday mornin' and I don't feel right
How can I be thirsty, I had so much to drink last nite

Now there's a whole lot of last night that I really don't recall
I lost all my keys, wound up sleepin in the hall
It might have been the whisky could have been the gin
I've only got myself to blame for the shape I'm in
Now it's Saturday mornin' and I don't feel right
How can I be thirsty, I had so much to drink last nite

Got a mouth like a birdcage it even hurts to comb my hair
I’m feelin so dehydrated, a little worse for wear and tear
Now it's Saturday mornin' and I don't feel right
How can I be thirsty, I had so much to drink last nite
